Why I do what I do…

I suppose if you’re reading this, it’s important to know what I do, and why I do it.

I’m currently working with a group called Youth With A Mission (YWAM), in Newcastle. YWAM is a non-denominational, non-profit Christian mission organisation that seeks to introduce people to a life-changing relationship with Jesus. We don’t sit back and wait for people to come to us, but we’re actively engaged in pursuing relationships with people in the community; loving them, serving them and preaching the Gospel.

What exactly do I do? I’m currently on the staff team of the All-Generations Discipleship Training School; the first of it’s kind run in Australia. We have people from all over North America and Europe, as well as students from Thailand, Australia and New Zealand. Our students are in the age range of 18-65, and come from a variety of church and family backgrounds. We have singles, couples and families, all here for the same reason; to know God and make Him known. I’m helping to lead these students through the school (including one on one discipleship) and co-leading an outreach to New Zealand in January 2012.

Why do I do it? I personally completed a Discipleship Training School (DTS) at Newcastle in June of this year. During that time I saw an amazing and thriving Christian community that was actively engaging in the life of the city and regularly seeing people come to Christ. God called me here to help releasing others into the great commission. I’m still coming to terms with the significance of me being here, but I know that God has me here for a reason.

One of the passions that God has laid on my heart is discipleship (helping other people get to know Jesus better) and YWAM Newcastle seems to be have HEAPS of opportunities to do that!
